RABIES
Rabies is a fatal disease of the nervous system caused by a virus. Most warm blooded animals are susceptible.
In Connecticut, it is a state law that all dogs and cats be vaccinated against the rabies virus, and pet owners are also required to obtain a license for their dog (cats are not required to be licensed). This vaccination needs to be kept up to date. The Conn. Veterinary Medical Assn. coordinates annual rabies vaccination clinics from April to June in towns around Connecticut. The Conn. Humane Society offers a rabies vaccination clinic at Fox Memorial Clinic every other Friday. These vaccinations are designed to help pet owners in financial need.
