LAND TRUSTS

According to the Land Trust Alliance, www.lta.org/aboutlt.html, land trusts protect land through donation and purchase, by working with landowners who wish to donate or sell conservation easements (permanent deed restrictions that prevent harmful land uses), or by acquiring land outright to maintain as open space. There are now more than 1,600 land trusts nationwide with 125 of those in Connecticut.

HOW DO I LOCATE A LAND TRUST IN MY TOWN?

A list of Connecticut Land Trust Alliance member land trusts can be found at the Land Trust Alliance website, http://www.ltanet.org/findlandtrust/state.tcl?state_id=connecticut09.
You can also call your town assessor's office to see if a land trust owns land in your town. To find your town's assessor's office in CONNECTICUT'S COMMUNITY RESOURCES DATABASE, search by Agency Name: assessor.
