DISABILITY PARKING PERMIT
The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (www.ct.gov/dmv) issues special parking permits to any eligible blind or disabled person who has registered a motorcycle, passenger or combination vehicle in their name. A special set of plates is issued bearing the international symbol of access.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A DISABILITY PARKING PERMIT
Disability parking permits must be applied for in the name of the disabled person or by the parent or guardian of the disabled person. The permit is for the exclusive use of the disabled person and may be used in any vehicle in which the disabled person is riding. The applicant must submit a properly completed application (DMV form – B-225), containing certification of blindness or serious and permanent impairment of the ability to walk. Forms can be obtained at any Dept. of Motor Vehicles office, filled out electronically (www.dmvct.state.ct.us/B225.HTM), or may be mailed by request by contacting the DMV Phone Center at (860) 263-5700 (Hartford area or outside of Conn.) or at (800) 842-8222 (Toll free within Conn. only). All DMV full service branches and satellite offices can issue permanent disability parking permits. One additional permit or a replacement permit can be obtained at no charge.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A TEMPORARY PERMIT
Temporary disability parking permits are provided for people whose ability to walk is seriously, but temporarily, impaired. The permits are issued to anyone whose hospital discharge plan requires the use of crutches, wheel chairs, or other devices intended as an aid or substitution for walking. An application must be filled out (DMV form - B-225) for a permit to be issued. Permits are valid for a period of six months.
