CENTERS FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING
WHAT IS A CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING? Connecticut’s Centers for Independent Living are single points of access to services for people with disabilities. Centers for Independent Living:
- were codified into law with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973;
- are charged with promoting empowerment and self-reliance for persons with disabilities;
- are operated and administered by persons with disabilities;
- offer a single point of access to services for all people regardless of the nature or type of disability; and
- offer advocacy, information and referral, peer counseling, skills training, and other supportive services for persons with disabilities.

- Contact your local Center for Independent Living.
