COMMUNITY HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CHAP)

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR: The Community Housing Assistance Programs (CHAP) programs are funded by the Conn. Department of Children and Families (DCF) and are offered by community based agencies in each region.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: CHAP programs provide either site-based or scattered site apartments for youth age 17-21 who are transitioning out of foster care and into independent living. Youth in the CHAP program must be in school and either be working or be involved in extra-curricular activities. Case management services are provided to the youth on a regular basis, and other supports are provided as needed.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE:

  • Youth age 17-21 who are transitioning out of foster care into the community
  • Must be in school and either working or involved in extracurricular activities

HOW TO APPLY: A referral from DCF is required; youth in foster care can contact their DCF caseworker.
