ADULT DAY PROGRAMS / ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTERS / ADULT DAY CARE CENTERS
Adult Day Programs, also known as Adult Day Health Centers, Adult Day Care Centers, or simply Adult Day Centers, provide care and supervision to people with functional and/or cognitive impairments who are unable to remain at home unattended during the course of the working day.
BENEFITS OF PLACING DEPENDENT ADULTS IN AN ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTER
- Helps to maintain level of functioning
- Provides opportunities for socialization, peer support, and medical and social services
- Promotes physical and mental health, nursing care, and other health services
- Provides assistance and respite for families and caregivers
- Prevents or delays inappropriate placement and premature institutionalization
- Enables institutionalized adults to transition back to the community
SELECTING AN ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTER
COST : Adult day center fees are private pay. However, payment assistance is available from the CT Dept. of Social Services (DSS) for people who are income and asset eligible. People ages 65+ apply for the Conn. Home Care Program for Elders, and people ages 18-64 apply for Community Based Services at DSS.
